The international Panofsky Professorship at the Central Institute for Art History in Munich was established in 2016. Every year, the Central Institute awards this professorship to an outstanding representative from the field of art history. The award is linked to a stay at the Central Institute and participation in the academic programme. The public Panofsky Lecture, which provides an insight into current research by the holder of the Panofsky Professorship, also fits into this framework. The lecture is published in a bilingual edition, German and English, by Deutscher Kunstverlag.
