The series was established by Paul Ortwin Rave, former curator of the National Gallery in Berlin. Inspired by the founding of the Schinkel Museum in the Prinzessinnenpalais in 1931, Rave planned a comprehensive documentation of Karl Friedrich Schinkel’s work. Since then, the life’s work of the greatest Prussian architect has been researched scientifically, and sources and documents have been made accessible in a series of representative volumes. The focus is on Schinkel’s designs and buildings in Prussia. Other volumes are devoted to his work as a painter, his travels, and his stage designs.
