Annelise Kretschmer (1903–1987) was one of the most important women photographers from Germany in the twentieth century. She received international recognition already in the early phase of her work during the Weimar Republic. Her photographic estate was maintained by her daughter for more than 30 years, and at the end of 2019 it was acquired by the LWL-Museum für Kunst und Kultur in Münster. This contribution describes path and workflow that brought this set of works into the museum collection with the stated goal of securing, processing, and presenting them and making them accessible for future use. In the chronological sequence of this project report, the crucial steps, strategies, and challenges are described. Large and small steps forward, milestones of the project, and critical situations are presented as well as events directly or indirectly related to the life and work of Annelise Kretschmer. As a record of this work, the report offers insights into the project of cataloguing and presenting historical photographs and is meant to be inspiration and guidance in dealing with other collections of historical photographs.
